About Me

Dr. Nick Hoy is a professional violinist based in the southeastern United States. Known for his clear musical leadership and expressive playing, he currently serves as Concertmaster for the Rome Symphony and Associate Concertmaster of the Huntsville symphony.

A native of Chattanooga, TN, Dr. Hoy began studying violin at age seven through the Suzuki method. He holds degrees in violin performance from Middle Tennessee State University (B.M.), Florida State University (M.M.), and the University of Georgia (D.M.A.).

Dr. Hoy has performed with numerous orchestras across the region and held leadership positions as concertmaster with the Alpharetta Symphony and principal 2nd violin with Georgia Philharmonic. He has appeared as a soloist with the Alpharetta Symphony, the Rome Symphony, and at Florida State University.

In Fall 2024, Dr. Hoy joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola.

Dr. Hoy performs on a 1925 Italian violin and a bow by Émile François Ouchard, which he rehairs himself—a skill he developed while working in a violin shop.
